The Ultimate Sandals Honeymoon Guide: Which Resort Is Actually Right for You?

There’s no such thing as the “best” Sandals resort.
There’s only the best one for you.
After visiting nearly every Sandals resort and planning countless honeymoons to the Caribbean, I can tell you the biggest mistake couples make is booking based on social media hype instead of how they actually travel.
Some couples want lively and social. Others want quiet and tucked away. Some care most about food. Others want the beach, the room, or the service experience.
This guide breaks down what Sandals Resorts are really like so you can narrow down which fits your honeymoon style, priorities and budget.
Why Couples Choose Sandals for Their Honeymoon
Sandals Resorts work exceptionally well for honeymoons because it simplifies a lot of the logistics couples don’t want to spend months researching:
- adults-only atmosphere
- unlimited luxury all-inclusive dining and drinks
- airport transfers included
- premium liquor
- scuba diving included for certified divers
- golf included at some resorts
- no worrying about splitting checks or planning every meal
- honeymoon perks and upgrade opportunities
- easy Caribbean access from the East Coast
For many couples, it allows them to actually enjoy the honeymoon instead of constantly managing it.
Best Sandals Resorts by Honeymoon Style
Best for a Luxury, Modern Feel
Sandals Saint Vincent & the Grenadines
If your dream honeymoon is:
- lush mountains
- modern design
- a quieter atmosphere
- less commercialized Caribbean
this is one of the strongest resorts in the entire brand right now.
The setting feels dramatically different from many Caribbean islands because you’re surrounded by rainforest-covered mountains instead of heavy tourism development. It’s more off-the-beaten path so it feels private and intimate.
Best for:
- couples wanting upscale but relaxed
- honeymooners who value privacy
- foodies
- couples who don’t want a party vibe.
Skip if:
- you want a huge beach for long walks
- you prefer nightlife and a lively daytime atmosphere.
Best Beach
Sandals Grande Antigua
That beach is the star. If you picture a classic turquoise Caribbean honeymoon with long walks on soft white sand, this one consistently delivers.
Best for:
- beach lovers
- couples who want a traditional Caribbean honeymoon feel
- relaxed honeymoon pacing
Skip if:
- modern luxury design matters most to you.
Best for Foodies
Sandals Royal Barbados
The restaurant variety here is one of the best in the brand. You also get access to neighboring Sandals Barbados, which dramatically expands dining choices.
Best for:
- couples who care about dining variety
- lively atmosphere
- modern rooms and rooftop spaces
- lots of options for activities, entertainment and local exploration.
Skip if:
- you want a quiet, secluded honeymoon.
Best for Adventure + Excursions
Sandals Grande St. Lucian
St. Lucia is one of the best Caribbean islands for couples who want:
- scenery
- excursions
- culture
- adventure
The Pitons, catamaran cruises, mud baths, waterfalls and rainforest experiences give you far more to do off resort compared to flatter islands.
Best for:
- active couples
- couples who don’t want to sit on a beach all day
- honeymooners wanting a mix of relaxation and exploration.
Best Newer Resort
Sandals Dunn’s River
One of the strongest redesigns Sandals has done, and I fell in love with it. The rooms feel elevated, the food program improved significantly, and the overall resort feels more current than many older Sandals properties. The staff is warm and welcoming and the beach is beautiful.
Best for:
- couples wanting newer luxury
- modern room categories
- Jamaica lovers.
Skip if:
- you want a large resort
Butler vs Club Level: Is Butler Service Worth It?
For some couples: absolutely. For others: not remotely necessary.
Butler service is most worth it when:
- you highly value convenience
- you want reserved beach/pool seating
- you’re staying at a large resort
- you prefer personalized service
- you want help securing dining reservations and spa appointments
- you want your vacation to feel extra special.
It’s less worth it if:
- you’re constantly off resort
- you’re low maintenance travelers
- you don’t spend much time poolside.
The biggest misconception is that Butler service is about “luxury flexing.” In reality, it’s more about ease and time-saving. The Butlers are trained to anticipate your needs and add extra touches to your stay.
What Most Couples Underestimate About Sandals
The resorts feel VERY different from one another
People assume that “A Sandals is a Sandals.” This is not true – every resort has its own vibe and personality.
Some feel lively and social.
Some feel quiet and romantic.
Some are beach-focused.
Others are scenery-focused.
Choosing the right island and resort matters more than people realize. I frequently visit them to keep my finger on the pulse of each one.
Not every room category is worth the upgrade
This is where expert guidance actually matters. Some upgrades dramatically improve the experience.
Others mainly improve square footage or location.
I often steer couples away from overspending in the wrong categories and toward where the value actually is.
Flight schedules matter more than people think
Certain islands are easier and smoother to reach than others. Some have non-stop flights, some don’t. Sometimes the transfer from the airport is 5 mins and sometimes it is 90 mins.
That can absolutely affect honeymoon pacing, especially for shorter trips.
When Should You Book a Sandals Honeymoon?
Ideal timing:
- 10–14 months ahead for peak dates and top room categories (ex – overwater bungalows, top level Butler suites)
- 6–9 months minimum for most honeymoons
- earlier for overwater bungalows and Butler suites
The best room categories often sell out first.
My Take
Sandals is not perfect for everyone but it is perfect for couples who want:
- a beautiful adults-only Caribbean honeymoon
- simplified planning
- strong service
- good value within luxury all-inclusive
- romantic atmosphere
it consistently delivers when paired with the right resort match. The key is choosing based on how you travel — not TikTok rankings.
After visiting nearly every Sandals resort, my personal favorites right now are Sandals Saint Vincent, Sandals Dunn’s River and Sandals Royal Curaçao — but for very different reasons.
Sandals Saint Vincent feels the most unique in the brand. The setting is stunning and much more lush and secluded than what many people picture when they think of the Caribbean. It feels upscale, relaxed and intentionally designed for couples who want a quieter, more refined honeymoon experience.
Sandals Dunn’s River is one of the strongest overall resorts Sandals has opened in years. The rooms feel elevated, the food is noticeably better than many older resorts, and it strikes a really good balance between modern luxury and classic Jamaica energy.
Sandals Royal Curaçao stands out because it feels different from a traditional tropical Caribbean resort. The island itself has a more European influence, the scenery is more rugged and colorful, and the resort has a more sophisticated, laid-back feel. It’s especially great for couples who want to get off resort and explore beaches, restaurants and the island itself.
That said, I don’t believe there’s one universally “best” Sandals resort. The best fit depends entirely on what kind of honeymoon experience you actually want. A couple looking for nightlife and a social atmosphere is going to have a very different ideal resort than a couple wanting privacy, quiet and slower-paced days. That’s why matching the right island and resort to the couple matters so much more than just booking whatever is trending online.
